Above the Trees shows the current National Weather Service forecast wind for where you are standing, and which way that wind is blowing relative to the direction your phone is pointing. It reports the forecast. It does not measure wind at the course.

Email [email protected]. Please say which iPhone and iOS version you are on, and if the forecast itself looks wrong, include the place name at the top of the screen and the update time at the bottom. Replies usually come within a few days.
Forecast unavailable here
The app reads the United States National Weather Service, so it works in the USA and the territories and marine areas that service covers. Anywhere else there is no forecast to show, and the app says so rather than guessing from another source.
The app is not finding your location
The forecast needs to know roughly where you are. If you declined the permission, the app offers it again. If iOS is no longer asking, turn it on under Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, Above the Trees, and choose While Using the App. If Location Services is off for the whole device, that same screen turns it back on.
You can also skip the permission entirely: tap Enter a ZIP code instead and type the ZIP code of the course. It is kept only on your phone, and only that area's coordinate goes to the National Weather Service. The compass turns the wind either way, so the whole app works without the permission. Granting it buys a position that follows you around the course and a compass Apple calibrates a little more closely.
The compass is wrong or will not turn
Move the phone slowly in a figure eight to calibrate it, and step away from carts, cars, and anything magnetic. When the compass cannot be trusted the app says so rather than naming a direction it cannot stand behind. Tap that to read what it means. The wind is held to north until the compass comes back: the direction it blows from stays correct, and the two figures on the field are split as though you were facing north. Pointing the phone straight up or down, or turning it onto its side, leaves it nothing to read a bearing from, so levelling it out brings the compass back.
The forecast says offline or expired
The last good forecast stays on screen. The stamp at the bottom names the hour it covers and the time it was pulled, so its age is always in view, and tapping Forecast opens the block it came from. Once that block has passed, a refresh appears on the stamp. A forecast more than six hours past its valid period is never shown at all.
Clearing stored data
Everything the app keeps is a forecast it already showed you, held on the phone so the next round opens without waiting. Nothing is sent anywhere. Deleting the app removes all of it; there is no account to close.
